Every year in early July, Rakuten Group hosts a series of events called “Smile Summer Days”. As a global company where people from all over the world work together, these events aim to boost communication within the company by sharing Japanese summer culture such as summer festivals, Tanabata (“Star Festival” held on July 7), and Yukata (lightweight summer kimono). This year, in 2024, the following four events were held.
・Summer Big Lottery
The first event, the “Summer Big Lottery” offered a chance to win luxurious prizes such as an accommodation voucher for Hoshino Resorts and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, participants could win a mobile battery convenient for outings, a portable fan perfect for the hot season, and a digital gift certificate for Baskin Robbins single regular scoop! All employees were eligible to apply regardless of employment type.
・Yukata Day
Friday, July 12 was “Yukata Day” at Rakuten Group!
Many Rakuten Group employees came to the office dressed in Yukata (lightweight summer kimono), Jinbei (casual summer two-piece), and Happi (festival coat with symbols), making the office filled with festive atmosphere. For those who found it difficult to commute by train in a yukata, we offered a free yukata dressing service. A changing room was also available for self-dressing at the office.
・Smile Summer Night
“Smile Summer Night” was held at Rakuten Crimson House (RCH) 4F ASAKAI Theater on Friday, July 12. A variety of drinks, including alcohol, and snacks were served in a standing style, allowing participants to enjoy the summer festival atmosphere at the office.
・Rakuten Super Baseball Game (public viewing)
On Thursday, August 1, the “Rakuten Super Baseball Game” (public viewing) event was held at seven locations: Sapporo, Sendai, Saitama, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka, where everyone cheered together for the Rakuten Eagles. Food and drinks were provided, and the event was a great opportunity to connect and have fun across different teams and departments.
